Freshly harvested organic American Black Cohosh root is the basis of this formula which provides the whole range of components that have been used traditionally. Modern research shows that no single ingredient, or group of ingredients, has proven to be responsible for the beneficial activity of Black Cohosh, so it is likely due to the full array of components. A study showed that efficacy of black cohosh in menopausal symptoms is dependent upon at least three different active constituents with a synergistic action.
The use of cultivated organic Black Cohosh root grown on our certified organic farm ensures a sustainable supply of this endangered, top-selling women's herb.
Recently it was reported that 3 of 11 Black Cohosh supplements (standardized extract products) purchased between 2002 and 2004 did not contain American Black Cohosh (Actaea racemosa), but instead contained a Chinese Black Cohosh (Actaea spp.) that does not contain the same active compounds. This is one of the many reasons to choose Oregon's Wild Harvest because we have established manufacturing practices to prevent the use of adulterated products.
Our root samples typically show about 1% triterpene glycosides, giving 3 mg for each capsule. The amount in our capsules is similar to the amount of triterpene glycosides that have been used in successful clinical trials of Black Cohosh.
