Oregon's Wild Harvest's Kava is from the Pacific Island of Vanatu, where Kava most likely originated from. This superior quality Kava has been cultivated to yield higher levels of the constituent kavain; the component that has been specifically known to be beneficial to support feelings of relaxation.
We believe that the whole root products resemble the Kava that the Polynesians have been safely consuming for thousands of years. Our capsules provide all the active compounds balanced naturally in the whole root form and we have not increased the kavalactone levels at the expense of other compounds.

The literal meaning of the scientific name, Piper methysticum, is "intoxicating pepper". Ethnobotanical reports suggest that it originated from a wild form of Kava in Vanatu. Since then cultivars have been introduced to many other Polynesian islands, where it has been used both medicinally and culturally as a national (intoxicating) drink. The ceremonial ritual of taking Kava was witnessed in the late 1700's, by captain James Cook's expedition.
During the 1990's Kava gained popularity as a dietary supplement and it became one of the top selling supplements sold in the USA.
